Wheel Guideline's
Wheels and the Law: Calculating PCD and Offset
When wheels are installed on a vehicle that are not within the manufacturer's suggested range, each state has certain legal obligations.
These specifications mostly have to do with increasing track measurement, installing nuts and studs, and wheel rim widths.
Outside of legal restrictions, modifications are not allowed, and proper wheel and tyre matching is essential to the vehicle's continuing safe operation. For the greatest guidance on all performance and safety matters, consult your local Payless store.
Insurance & Maintenance
Wheel Upkeep and Care
It is advised that you clean your alloy wheels with soap and water on a regular basis to ensure long-lasting maintenance. Before using car detergents, make sure you check first since they could erode the alloy metal. Regularly use a wheel brace to retighten your wheel nuts or studs.
Protection
Please make sure that the wheels you have chosen are suitable with your automobile by checking with your insurance provider.
Tyre vs Wheel
In essence, a tyre is just a rubber casing that uses science and technology to provide a stable mechanical hold on the road and enable driving in both wet and dry circumstances (as long as the tread depth is appropriate). It is obvious that a tyre lacks the structural stiffness and load-bearing capacity necessary to support the vehicle by itself. This is the function of the wheel, sometimes called a rim. Together, the wheel and tyre support the weight of the automobile thanks to the combined strength of the wheel and the compressed air inside the tyre and wheel combination. In order to ensure that the tyre and wheel stay together as a unit, the tyre is designed to fit on a wheel and has a bed arrangement. Instead of resting entirely above the wheel assembly, the tire's base is somewhat below the rim's extremity. The bead remains "seated" and in place on the rim when the tyre is pumped. This explains why if a motorist continues to drive after a flat tyre or puncture, the bead and rim may fly off.
Replacement Wheels Requiring an Engineer's Certificate
For the purpose of certifying modified vehicles, an engineering signatory approved by the Transport Authority must evaluate wheels that surpass the diameter and breadth limitations for significant wheel modifications. (For further information, get in touch with the Transport Authority.)
An engineering certificate will be given to you if the signatory determines the wheels are safe for your car. In order to notify the Transport Authority of the changes or to register the vehicle, the original copy of this certificate must usually be supplied. The owner's copy or duplicate copy, which has been endorsed and stamped by the Transport Authority, needs to be stored in the car in order to be produced upon request to a designated Transport Authority or police officer.

Wheel Fitments
It is not necessary to notify the RTA when installing wheels that are up to 26 mm wider than the widest optional wheel that the vehicle manufacturer recommends for the vehicle. The total diameter of the wheel and tyre combination cannot be greater than 15 mm above the vehicle's biggest diameter wheel and tyre combination or smaller than 15 mm under the vehicle's lowest diameter wheel and tyre combination.
The replacement installed unit and wheel combination must remain inside the mudguard when installing a bigger wheel and tyre fitment. Additionally, the tyre and wheel unit MUST not be visible when seen straight down from the top of the mudguard to the ground with the tyre and wheel facing forward.
