The registration system is largely about making sure cars are roadworthy. It’s also about protecting people – every vehicle must be registered to be covered by compulsory third party (CTP) insurance. This insurance makes sure that everyone is covered for personal injury if they are hurt in a crash.
Driving an unregistered vehicle is a serious offence that can have far-reaching and catastrophic consequences.
Payless Tyres and Brakes offers a range of roadworthiness inspections to make sure you’re covered.
eSafety Check (Pink Slip) Inspection
Most vehicles require an eSafety Check Inspection (or pink slip) before you can renew the registration. If your vehicle is less than 5 years old, an eSafety Check is generally not required. Your registration renewal notice will advise you if your vehicle needs an inspection.
Payless Tyres and Brakes is an authorised eSafety Check station.
The eSafety Check is a safety inspection report that proves your car is roadworthy. Results of the eSafety Check are sent to Roads and Maritime Services (RMS, previously the RTA) electronically. You can then renew your registration online or by phone.
Blue Slip Inspection
A blue slip (or Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection) is a safety inspection report for an unregistered vehicle which proves the vehicle has passed the required roadworthiness, design and identity standards.
This is used:
- to establish registration for an unregistered vehicle
- when an interstate vehicle is registered in NSW for the first time
Payless Tyres and Brakes is an Authorised Unregistered Vehicle Inspection Station.
Second-hand vehicles (including interstate and imported vehicles) may be selected for an additional inspection by the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) specialised vehicle identification unit.
White Slip
A white slip (or Repairs Needed report) is issued if a vehicle fails the eSafety Check. It details the repairs required before a vehicle can be registered. Once the repairs are carried out satisfactorily and you have the vehicle re-inspected, the vehicle will receive a pink or blue slip.
Pre-purchase vehicle inspection
This is a fully comprehensive inspection report which includes a complete check of the vehicle.
The inspection involves a thorough examination of all mechanical components, as well as the bodywork, paintwork and under-structure, for evidence of any damage or unsatisfactory repair work. The vehicle's interior electrical components and electronic control unit are checked for any fault codes. The inspection also includes a road test.
